Dota 2 matchmaking change

Dota 2 / News / 7 August 2019 — 13:13

Ranked Roles are now free for all!

Valve introduced one of the biggest rehauls of the matchmaking system. This is the first part of the Summer Scrub update; the second part will be focused on fixing the bugs reported previously. Let's take a look at the new, experimental system.

First, Solo and Party MMR have been disabled. Instead of them, Core and Support MMR have been added. This change was explained by the fact solo rating was considered more valuable than party rating, discouraging playing with friends. So, this change is aimed to resolve this problem.

Another change concerns Ranked Roles, which are now available for everyone. They now offer greater flexibility and diversity, you can choose your position — from Core to Hard Support, or pick more than 1 option. The MMR will be given to the role you end up playing. The recalibration is not needed for now, but if the system stays in the future, the players will have to calibrate for both types separately.

The change is experimental and will last till the end of the season. Once the season ends, Valve will gather the feedback from the community in order to tweak the system further.
