ESL One Cologne 2018: victory over Gambit

A confident victory!

The second series of NAVI.GG.BET at ESL One Cologne 2018 was against  Gambit. The Bo3 ended with a convincing 2:0 victory by our team!

Game 1 - Natus Vincere [1;0] Gambit

The first started off with pistols and 2 subsequent rounds going the way of  NAVI, as we established a 3:0 lead before the gun round. Despite a good attempt by Gambit, they still didn't manage to get a point on board, as we kept on going. Only 6 rounds in did opponent managed to come online with the first point.  NAVI traded back, but the response came right away. The teams started playing on a more even footing, as Gambit started climbing back into the game.

NAVI didn't want to allow the opponent to make the difference too small, so we gathered ourselves and ended the 3-round streak, disrupting the flow of the game. Eventually, that allowed us to convincingly take the first half 11:4. This set up a good beginning of the second half, as we had a decent gap between us. The second half started with the first 2 rounds going the way of Gambit, but those were the only one they picked up. The third round of the half marked the beginning of the final run for NAVI, as we claimed the first map 16:9!

Game 2 - Natus Vincere [2:0] Gambit

The first half saw a similar beginning, as NAVI claimed the first 5 rounds, though not without complications. The round 5 saw a 1v1 unfold - even though we won it, we lost all but 1 device, upsetting our economy a bit. The teams traded the next couple of rounds, which allowed Gambit to take some points, while NAVI maintained the advantage. The opponent went on a 3-round streak, which brought them closer to us, but they fell short, as NAVI was the first one to take 8 rounds. The first half was over with the score of 10:5.

The second half saw a defuse coming in from NAVI, as well as the next one. All those rounds saw the defuses with the clutches; those allowed Gambit to maintain at least some economy. Still, that wasn't enough to stop the Counter-Terrorists, as NAVI hit the first matchpoint at 15:5. Despite the best efforts of Gambit, they could not prolong the game, and we take the series 2:0!
