Back to the roots in the patch 7.20

Dota 2 / News / 19 November 2018 — 22:00

Do veterans remember?

Less than a day ago, the long-awaited update for our beloved game Dota 2 has finally arrived. was met broadly and in heated discussions: almost all items, characters, as well as the map and individual game mechanics were changed. Studying the list of changes, we paid attention to a few interesting points that old school players probably have noted. For references to early patches of 7.20, read in our material.

Ultimate Drow Ranger

Annihilating creeps in one motion is the dream of every carry player, which they are against on the lane and in the woods, but for the Drow Ranger before patch 6.50, this was a common practice. The ultimate ability Marksmanship allowed Traxes to destroy a creep in one hit with a probability of ten, fifteen or twenty percent, according to the level of the ability.

The ability, of course, did not work on Roshan, ancient creeps, as well as on heroes and buildings. In patch 6.50, the ultimate was entirely reworked: it added the Drow Ranger 10/20/30 agility but did not affect anything else. As you probably know, talents (20th level: + 20 agility to Marksmanship), as well as the Aghanim's Scepter effect, dividing the arrows so that the hero attacks several targets at once were added later on.

Finally, in patch 7.20, game developers once again took on tweaking the ultimate of Traxes. Now Marksmanship gives a twenty-, thirty-, forty percent chance of procing a piercing attack that does not miss and passes through the defense of the enemy. It ignores armor and instantly destroys creeps. Enjoy your farm!

Unstable Current Razor

Over the years, Razor has also experienced many changes, as a result of which in 7.20 some of the hero’s abilities refer to old patches. A little excursion into the story: up to version 6.60, the hero's ultimate was called Storm Seeker and it was a storm that appeared and followed Razor, every 3 seconds it attacked the enemy within a radius of 500 units, and also mini-stunned for 0.01 seconds.

At 6.60, Valve developers presented the Eye of the Storm - a new key ability of the hero, which attacked the enemy with the least amount of health points with lightning, inflicting damage and weakening his armor. At the same time - the third skill Unstable Current, passively increasing the movement speed of Razor, as well as slowing down and attacking the enemy by electric discharge. In addition, it purged the positive buffs.

In patch 7.20, Unstable Current has been modified to acquire the effects of an old ultimate. Now it deals 60/80/100/120 damage to all enemy units within a radius of 500 units every 6/5/4/3 seconds - the Storm Seeker worked in the same manner, but the updated ability does not any longer slow or purges buffs from the enemies.

Summon Keeper of the Light

The Keeper of the Light has undergone very serious changes in the last patch: Valve employees reviewed the mechanics of Chakra Magic, made Blinding Light a basic spell, removed Mana Leak and Spirit Form and, most importantly, added a completely new ultimate. Will-o-Wisp creates the essence of Ignis Fatuus.

Before the 6.55 update, the hero already had the opportunity to summon the Spirit of Light, which, in turn, had three skills: Liberate Soul, Will O '(traveling to any point on the map) and Phase Shift. The skill was replaced by what we observed during the last patches: using the ability, Ezalor transformed and illuminated, activating additional spells.

How does the ultimate after update 7.20 works? Keeper of the Light calls upon Ignis Fatuus. The light flashes for 1.3 seconds and turns off for 1.75 seconds. Enemies within a radius of 650 units are hypnotized and forced to look at this light. The mechanics of summoning have been changed, but it is rather interesting that the game developers resurrected the idea of invoking a certain controlled entity and returned to their roots.
