IEM Katowice Major 2019

From February 13 to March 3, the first Major of the year will be held — IEM Katowice Major 2019. Katowice will welcome 16 teams that will compete for $ 1,000,000.

The tournament will be held in two phases: a group stage and the playoffs. At the first stage of the competition, as in the previous Majors, we will see the Swiss system in action, but with some adjustments: decisive fights (games between teams with 2–0, 2–1, 2–2, 1–2, 0–2 ) instead of the best of 1 will last up to two victories.

In addition, changes were introduced to define the seeding of teams. So, participants of the competition will be given the opportunity to make their own teams rating. To determine the ranking of teams during the championship, the ELO rating system will replace the “Buchholz system”, which was used for the 3-5 FACEIT Major rounds.

As for the playoffs, here we see a classic bracket of single elimination, best of 3. We are confident that by IEM Katowice Major 2019 our guys will have time to get into the best shape and achieve a positive result in the tournament! #NAVINATION

GROUP STAGE:

— the Swiss system will be used in the group stage;
— the matches will be held in the best of 1 format, except for the decisive matches, where teams will play up to two victories;
— the draw for the next round will be held in accordance with the ELO rating system;
— the eight best teams of the New Challengers stage will enter the New Legends draw;
— the eight best teams of the New Legends stage will enter the playoffs and get the status of Legends;
— the eight worst teams of the New Legends stage will leave the competitions;
— only six teams that have dropped out of the New Legends (8th to 14th places) guarantee themselves participation in the preliminary stage of the next Major.

PLAYOFFS:

— single elimination, best of 3;
— the ELO rating system will also be used to determine opponents in the quarterfinals.
