Clawz — the rating system, new features of the second season and the competitive component of the game

We talked to Nikita “clawz” Marchinsky, and he shared with us his view on the new season in Apex Legends, noted its advantages, and also told us what the professional stage lacks at the current moment.

Share your general view on the second season of Apex Legends. What changes do you like and what don't you like?

Basically, the new season — it is rating games, and it works well. I am pleased with the balance of the guns, you can, in principle, play with absolutely any gun, they are practically equally effective. The cons don't come to mind right away.

You can't ignore Wattson. How useful is this new character? Have you started to maining her yourself, or do you prefer more familiar characters?

Interesting character, discourages other teams from wanting to push you once more. In general, she consistently finds herself to be useful at any stage of the game. My style fits well, because I need a character that would make me play more on defense.

L—STAR — how do you like new weapons? Does it fit into your playstyle?

Generally, yes, but I now prefer the usual "common" guns.

I would like to go on to discuss the professional scene of Apex Legends. Highlight the pros and cons of its development at the moment.

The main positive side is that it exists and that it develops fairly quickly. The downside, it is not yet established, in my opinion, the closest possible sporting rules for tournaments, no lobby, etc. Actually, the game should first live this scene for a year and correctly form it.

Doesn't it feel like the game and esports scene have been stuck since its release? What should be done to develop a competitive component?

No, esports scene is definitely not stuck. For the development it is necessary to hold tournaments and draw appropriate conclusions.

Is the developer interested in the opinion on the development of the game among professional players? Or perhaps you yourself sent some suggestions?

Yes, they are interested in everyone's opinion. That's why we got the rating games, for example, relatively fast.

Recently, cYpheR became your coach . What is the reason for his transition to this position? Personal desire or collective decision? How do you practice? Does CYpheR navigate you with which characters to take or which zone to land in?

CYpheR collects a lot of information about the other teams as well as our game. It is some kind of outside view, which is very often missing from the team. His rich experience and understanding of various aspects of the game greatly helps in the formation of the team.

9impulse has become your new player . How long did it take to find the new recruit? Why the choice fell on him?

One of the best players in the CIS, a very strong shot caller — it's quite simple. So it didn't last long.

Is there a player you'd call the strongest in the professional scene right now? What are the main criteria in the assessment of strength?

No, I have not noticed anyone like that yet. Everyone plays somewhat equally.

What can you say about the upcoming championship, which will be held by EA and Respawn? Do professional players have any interesting information about it?

The upcoming tournament is a big and rather a sharp start for the esports in Apex Legends. Getting such a tournament almost at the start of the game development, in which the first few months there was no focus on esports — that's cool.

EA announced that a new in-game event will be available soon, which is very much awaited by fans. How do you expect the developer company to surprise the players?

I'm not aware of these events, I'm not following them very closely. For me, every new play day with my friends from Natus Vincere is the main event!

It is impossible to ignore one of the main events in the world of esports — The International. Do you at all follow the professional Dota 2 scene? Will you cheer for NAVI?

I follow the action of NAVI in Dota 2 and CS. I will for sure cheer for NAVI at The International!

Finally, the question about the prize funds. Do you think a championship like this with a lot of money at stake would help Apex Legends develop?
