The International 2019: A draw in the first game

Dota 2 / News / 15 August 2019 — 03:00

The start of the match is at 05:30

The International 2019 kicks off early in the morning! The ua NAVI.GG.BET will start the match against eu OG. The format of the match — best of 2.

“Yellow-black” in the first match of the tournament will have a serious test of strength because the opponent is the reigning champion who came to Shanghai to defend their title.

However, it should be noted that the season for eu OG was not easy. The team took the tenth line in the Dota Pro Circuit ranking, which provided them with a direct invitation to the championship, but at the tournaments of this series, they did not rise above the 5-6 places.

In addition, the roster of the team has changed several times during the season, as at the very start of the season au Ana announced that he is taking a break and went to inactive status. Attempts by eu OG to rebuild their game with se Pajkatt, and then with ru iLTW, were unsuccessful, and eventually, the Australian has returned. After that, the team managed to get into two Majors in a row and showed a decent result in these competitions.

Despite certain problems in the current season, eu OG remains an extremely dangerous opponent, who has a burden of responsibility — the title of the champions. Our guys need to prepare properly for the match and give as much as possible to continue the performance in a good spirit!

The first game started with a First Blood for ua NAVI even before the horn — kr W_Zayac stacked up enough Shadow Poison on Ember Spirit to secure the kill despite the Flame Guard. The top lane domination by Shadow Demon continued, as he scored another kill. However, the tides soon turned — as the opponent won a fight near our T1 mid, their net worth advantage spiked sharply.

OG were able to use their advantage well, gaining a lot of map control for some time. Our Bloodseeker retreated into the jungle for some time, as he needed to catch up. ua NAVI kept trying to go for aggressive plays, but they weren't really working out for us, and eu OG were still getting more kills. 21 minutes in the Dire went for the first Roshan of the game, successfully claiming the Aegis. When the time for the base defence came, though, ua NAVI showed they still had enough power — 3 heroes dead for eu OG.

A few key items our way worked like a charm — a teamfight outside our base saw all spells come together for a devastating effect, 4 Dire heroes dead. Unfortunately, this teamfight did not give us much outside of some gold and a tower — the opponent was still ahead. Our first barrack fell 36 minutes in. From this point onwards, there was not much ua NAVI was able to do from behind. eu OG were getting a lot of kills, and ultimately ua NAVI gg-ed out of game 1.

The First Blood was drawn in the bottom lane by ru SoNNeikO, who killed Grimstroke. Viper didn't have a very good start in the lane, falling behind in terms of CS rather heavily. However, a couple of kills the way of ua MagicaL helped alleviate the problem somewhat. ua NAVI maintained an even game, getting some kills and allowing cores to get some farm. By 15 minutes, the game was still dead even. After we took down enemy bottom T1, some of our heroes teleported top to defend T1, scoring a few kills.

As the game went on, the advantage of ua NAVI kept increasing. A series of fights allowed us to establish a confident dominance over the map. Soon, we were able to engage Roshan, and successfully claimed the Aegis, boosting our offensive potential. ua NAVI used the Aegis almost immediately, going for the enemy base and killing a few heroes on the way. Dire lost the entire midlane and 1 barrack on top.

Soon, the decisive fight came. ua NAVI had to use the BKBs early, but it didn't stop us from getting some important kills, including Spectre. The Dire carry bought back straight away, and eu OG went for Roshan. Despite the Aegis on Spectre, the game still didn't turn around — 2 deaths on the hero, and others followed the suit, eu OG collapsing. ua NAVI take the game 2, drawing the series 1:1!
