Kirill “9impulse” Kostiv spoke about preparations for the qualifiers, shared his opinion on the new tournament system, and also suggested whether it is possible to balance the competitive meta.

How do you feel before the first competitive season of Apex Legends? Did you manage to rest and gain some strength?

I had time to relax, but it’s hard to gain strength before the tournament, which you might just not get to because of cheaters or disconnects.

We arrived at a wonderful bootcamp, where we have the opportunity to play on more stable computers with a good Internet connection - we will certainly disconnect less often, and we'll have more frames in the game. We hope this will helps us to beat the cheaters.

We have regular practices: we launch pubs and we hope that there will be as many cheaters as possible to practice.

What can you say about teamwork? Did fyzu fully settle in?

Yes, from the very first day we actually had no problems in terms of understanding or the view on the game, gameplay. We were pretty much on the same page.

Do you separate any opponents into a separate category?

The most dangerous are Virtus.pro, Team Reciprocity. The new Winstrike Team is pretty strong. But we should expect fierce resistance from everyone because there are a lot of mixes and all teams are ready for the tournament.

How do you like the composition of CrowCrowd with NLaaeR?

NLaaeR is very strong. I would like to see his performance at the tournament, I hope that he will “pop-off”. He got used to Apex Legends very quickly and started to play really well.

If we talk about the upcoming season, then how do you like the new system?

I do not fully understand how it works. So I just came to play in qualifying matches, and then at the end, they will tell me the result.

What goals do you set personally for yourself in the upcoming season?

I would like to get another MVP title. I think our aggressive style of play is suitable for this - so that someone from the team always becomes the best player in the tournament.

Let's talk about the game itself. How do you like all the in-game events presented by the developers? Do you play them yourself?

I am not the biggest fan of events: I did not really like the previous one with three teams; in the new "Golden Duo", I was constantly killed with a crab or mastiff — I really liked that. But in general, I am really looking forward to Night Kings Canyon.

Tell us about your attitude toward cosmetic items. Do you like to constantly change skins, try to get new ones, or are you more a fan of standard skins?

The only skin I like is Voidwalker. And also Kunai. I don’t like anything else. Other than that, I tried to change the standard skins, because the legendary skins highlight the player very brightly.

It makes sense to change skins between games to confuse the opponent, we did that. To be more accurate, it was a bit different: we played well - we left the skins, played bad - it meant that the skins were unlucky, so we changed.

Share your opinion on the current meta. Is there any chance that the game developers will balance all the characters and make them equally useful?

Actually, we have recently started to try out Crypto, and it seems that we are the only team that hasn't stopped using it. Everyone returned to Gibraltar, Watson, and Wraith.

But there is such a chance - that they will balance: after qualifications, a patch where Revenant will be featured comes out. In theory, the meta should become a little wider, since, in theory, the hero turns off all abilities for 10 seconds - this is very rough.

And who plays Crypto in the team?

Nikita Clawz. While we are fighting, he just flies on a drone, ults and goes back to afk. He really likes not to take part in fights.

What can you say about the map? Are you tired of playing the same one?

I would like a rotation. Even just an old map. On the new one, there are a lot of chokepoints - small passages through which you are forced to walk. And through them sometimes 4–5 squads pass by. The lucky ones to survive wins the game.

Is the idea of the keys good?

In all of the scrims we had, we never opened the keys. They are in the choke points, and we try to stay away from them. There are a lot of them and the open space, so I do not like the map.

There have been rumors for a long time that transport could be added to the game. Does it need a similar aspect?

It would be nice to see some hoverboard, but they shouldn’t add a helicopter and so on. Although it’s difficult to go through the choke points, therefore you need a tank - this is the only chance to survive.

What do Apex Legends need to be the best Battle Royale game?
