Enjoy your read!

In early January, ru Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov ua NAVI.Junior. In an interview, the young player talked about how his professional career in CS:GO began, evaluated his style of play, and also recalled several MM matches with ua Zeus.

Hi! Surely, many of ua NAVI fans have never heard of you, so let's start with an introduction. How did you get involved with Counter-Strike? How did your journey begin?

Hello everyone!

In short, it all started in my early childhood. My brother Andrey was fond of CS 1.6, participated in tournaments, went to LANs. I followed his progress, I liked this game, and we began to share the PC. CS:GO came out, and we played two more years alternately. Then, in 2014, my brother bought a new computer, and I got the old one. And I've been on this old PC until May 2019, gradually climbing to 3000 ELO.

All right, and how does your progression in professional CS look like? Who did you play with before and what accomplishments have you achieved?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

As I turned 14, my parents bought a new computer. We gathered for the first bootcamp with the team ru NewBALLS  this is my first serious team. After that, we had a good performance at an online tournament, a couple of successful LANs (on one of them I got MVP). Later, the whole squad began to play under the banner of ru S-GAMING, but due to my age I was dropped from the team: right now, I can not play at many major tournaments. I continued to play and stream, and after the New Year, I was invited to ua NAVI.

Why did you choose Counter-Strike and not another esports discipline?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I like this game, plus it's very advanced in terms of the esports scene. And the competitive aspect itself, many venues, tournaments from small to large. All this makes it the best in its genre. It is captivating.

Another burning question: where did your nickname come from? Maybe you played under another name before?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I don't have a story of my nickname. Just thought of it.

What strengths can you highlight in your playstyle? What kind of in-game role do you usually get?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I can say that I play very aggressively. I know how to do it, but I try to do it only when necessary.

In the matches, I play the role of the second sniper. I've been wondering for a long time which role suits me the best. It was a hard choice for me.

Can you tell us how you approach your training? How does your warm-up look like? How do you prefer to prepare for matches?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

First I go to bunnyhop servers. If anyone wonders why I do this, it's so that I feel the sense of my mouse, to get used to it, it becomes easier to move around the map. I advise everyone to do this! This takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

Next, we have the usual warm-up on special maps like aim_botz, "fast aim reflex" and many others. It takes 10-15 minutes. And the last step is to watch the demo. I do this for about an hour and a half a day. From the demo I learn a lot of different and useful tricks, moves, I try to remember something new in the actions of a player who plays in my position.

Coach Amiran speaks very fondly about your abilities and he is confident that you have a great future ahead of you. Have you met ua ami before you got into ua NAVI?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Thanks, it's truly a pleasure, I appreciate his trust in me. Our paths could have crossed, but I did not leave an application for the NAVI Esports Camp project, but they have crossed now, and I'm very happy about that.

What players do you learn from? Whose replays do you watch? Maybe there are those who sympathize with you not only as players but also as individuals?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I can say this: I don't always watch a certain person's demo. I choose a team and watch the demo the pov of the person on this team who plays in my position.

As for the last question, there are no players so far who really sympathize with me.

Can you remember examples when you noted something from other players and it came in handy during a match? What do you focus on when learning someone’s game?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

No, there were no such moments. I pay attention to how a person moves on the map, how he plays his role, in which situations he acts more carefully. Thus, based on his actions, I can imagine in my mind why and what for he played so.

What teams do you like to watch? What attracts you to their play style?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I like to watch dk Astralis. The team that has shown us how to play real CS. When watching their demos, you realize how much they have a deep understanding of the game, effective communication, etc. I am attracted to their cautious and sometimes aggressive style. They always try to play differently, and the opponent does not expect this.

People say that during LAN matches you almost always chew a gum. Is that true? Why do you do that?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Yea, that’s true. In fact, gum allows me to focus on the game. And in general, it helps me :)

What is your top 3 list of the maps? And on the contrary, on what map do you avoid matches at any convenient opportunity?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Mirage, Vertigo, Train are my top 3. I don't like playing Inferno and sometimes Overpass.

How do you like the current state of Counter-Strike? Would you like to change something?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Right now online in CS is growing significantly. I think the developers of the game are currently trying to come up with something new, but we are just waiting.

I would like to upgrade/nerf some weapons. The past nerf to Krieg did not lead to the desired result, so it's time to try something more substantial.

Which of the latest changes by Valve, did you like? And why is that?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I liked the changes in Galil / Famas. The reduced spread and reduced cost of weapons.

You are actively streaming. What attracts you to this activity?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Yeah, I'm into streaming. I just showcase my game to spectators, fans. I like to chat, answer questions.

And how do you like to spend your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

In my free time, I go for a walk, go to the cinema, if there are any interesting movies, watch videos on YouTube. My main hobby at the moment is CS:GO it takes up almost all my free time. And I often stream, of course. By the way, I will be glad to see everyone on my channel :)

What was the last movie you saw in the theater? What do you listen to in terms of music? Maybe you can name one of your favorite TV shows?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

I can't recall right away which movie I saw the last, I think it was, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

I listen to different music, I have all my music on my page.

The series "The Mandalorian" was great, and well, "Game of Thrones" is just a bomb!

Do you agree with HLTV ranking? When can we expect you on that list? :)
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Overall, I agree with the rating, but I would like to see more people from CIS in the TOP-10. I should be there in a couple of years.

You recently played several MM matches with ua Zeus. How did you get in touch? Have you met Danylo before?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

No, I haven't met him before. I knew him only as a player. We were introduced by ru Eric "shok", a famous YouTuber (Lifehacker) :D

What can you say about playing together with ua Zeus? Did you manage to learn some new skills from a more experienced friend?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

ua Zeus is very cool in communication, charismatic, funny, it was very nice to play with the CS legend. He knows well where the pit is on Mirage, he showed where it exactly is. It’s difficult to learn something by playing matchmaking for fun, even with such a good player.

Have you followed his performances before playing together with ua Zeus? What moments of Danylo's career are most memorable for you?
ruIlya "m0NESY" Osipov

Of course. I’ve been following him since 2015, and in general, I like him as a player. I watched his successes and victories in ua NAVI. However, the best moment that I remember was his victory at the PGL KRAKOW MAJOR with ru Gambit. I was watching the finale back then and was just in shock.
