The interview for Onliner.by

by Nikita "clawz" Marchinsky gave an interview to Onliner.by, talking about the motivation, the prize money spent, and the importance of studying.

Why didn't you quit university? Everything worked out for you, why the diploma?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

It's an important thing. I realized this in my third year. It gives the skill of interacting with people. In NAVI, I talk to the guys, the manager. It's the same at the university. You learn to work with people, cope with stressful situations, contact, and simply answer emails on time.

Why would an esportsman go for a second degree to become a psychologist?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

Just wondering what they can tell. How I can apply my skills and experience.

Remind us how you got into esports? Your uncle showed you Quake, right?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

At the age of six, I played Quake with bots. Then came Skyrim and other stuff. When I was 11, I saw Quake Live on my uncle's monitor. He let me play it, and that's when it all began — my computer addiction. I played like crazy all the time.

Have you ever insulted your rivals?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

No, not even once. Everyone knows each other, you'll get served a knuckle sandwich when LAN comes.

What motivated me to play better was the behavior of the players who kicked noobs from the server or insulted them. I really wanted to learn to play well to join a server and give them the taste of their own medicine. This was probably my main motivation to get better. "You'd better, you don't have the luxury of calling out a noob, he just entered the game, and you were like that too."

Why did you quit Quake?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

One of the reasons… When I won Sacrifice for the first time (team tournament at QuakeCon.Onliner note), I had such a big emptiness inside. But when I looked at my seasoned teammates, who at that time were 30 years old ... They were so happy, they had wide smiles, hugged. And I was so happy about it: we wrecked everyone, euphoria, the cup. Sasha Dolgov didn't even shake hands with the opponent, he ran to the trophy... Later I did the same in duels, and they called me a douchebag for two years. And I was still blind, I did not understand at all what was happening, that I won. These emotions, especially with the team, are worth a lot.

Do you think that success came from how much you played, or from your innate talent?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
  I  I

Probably because of the personality, thoughts in my head. I've been analyzing my thoughts at certain stages of my life. And what these trains of thought led to. Many things are not accidental. Then I thought about it a lot, and it happened because I really wanted to. When you think about something a lot, it happens. I don't understand why this is happening. You can even start believing in God all of a sudden.

It is clear that the power of thought is nonsense. But when you think about it, you do it, you invest time. There will be some return. I'd rather think about something than have an absent-minded stream. I will just sit and concentrate on my thoughts. When I go to tournaments, I don't talk to anyone: I sit and think about winning the tournament.

How is the title (Apex Legends)?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

It's not Quake, of course, but not Quake Champions either. The game is difficult, BRs have situations that you simply can't explain. I like the team, everything is perfect, the best time.

Salary plus prize money? Are there tournaments now?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

Yes, online mostly. The coronavirus did not spare anyone. The last time we gathered was Kyiv in early March — for the bootcamp. We were supposed to fly to America for the tournament. Two days before the departure, the tournament was canceled, we flew home.

Let's talk about what you've spent your money on.
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

I can already see the comments destroying me. Louis Vuitton sneakers, I also bought a bracelet.

Does the person who earned so much cash at the age of 19 still have a dream?
byNikita "clawz" Marchinsky
 I  I  I

It's difficult when you win big tournaments so early. You are so stupid. It seems like you've already done everything. We must somehow pull ourselves together because such victories can hit you hard. On the other hand, they may not.

The only desire is to diversify. I've mastered the horizontal bar (workout). Then I want to learn to play a musical instrument, then, perhaps, I will try to learn a martial art...
