A new system to qualify for the World Final
The tournament organizers of the BLAST Premier series announced to return next year with more qualifying events featuring more teams, and changes to how teams secure their spot in a World Final championship.
The year 2021 will be split into two seasons just like this year: Fall and Spring with three BLAST Premier tournaments in each half and featuring Bo3 format – all leading to the World Final in December.
The Showdown championships will include all regions, the Spring Showdown will focus on Americas and Europe while the Fall Showdown will focus on Europe, and two new regions — Asia and Oceania. Up to 32 teams will take part in the seven BLAST Premier events with potentially 80 teams competing in the qualifying events making it possible for us to witness up to 286 matches take place across the whole year.
The winners of BLAST Premier Spring and Fall Finals will secure their spot in the World Final, additional slots are allocated to the champions of Flashpoint 3 and 4, ESL Pro League 13 and 14, and Valve Fall Major, the last spot will go to the team that hasn't won one of the previously mentioned tournaments and places the highest in the Race to the World Final Leaderboard.
The Race to the World Final Leaderboard is a qualifying system for the World Final and the way of scoring teams for competing in 14 of the leading tournament around the world, six teams with the best scores from each tournament earn points by winning matches and progressing as far as possible in these events.
