xaoc — about the new RMR rules

This night Valve for the CS:GO scene: in addition to adding team stickers, RMR rules for the 2021 competitive season were announced.

Coaches are now forbidden to be near the team during online matches, and certain penalties were introduced for using a sixth player in tournaments.

ua NAVI Chief Operating Officer ua Aleksey "xaoc" Kucherov commented on the changes.

Update take came along with the stickers: Did Valve discuss such an initiative with the organization in advance, or was it all a surprise?

Yes, we together with other clubs came up with such an initiative and offered Valve to organize something like that. Although we wanted it to be more interesting, to coincide with a specific event (like 7 years since the first stickers at IEM Katowice 2014), but it turned out a little differently. But it's still great news.

And as for the new rules regarding coaches at RMR and the penalty for the 6th player — did you know about that?

We didn't know that, and that news made us very sad. All the top 3 teams in the world now have 6 people on their roster. And some other teams have that format too. And this was completely ignored.

The new rule about substitutions actually puts an end to the sixth player in the team, because not everyone will want to lose 20% of earned RMR points per event. Or it's worth it?

We will still weigh all the risks. At first glance, it looks like you can take a 6th player, and it looks like they made it so that no one would ever do it. It looks like a test of whether teams really need a 6th man in the roster. And if teams get past that, they'll change that in the future.

Coaches were banned from communicating with the team during online matches (even during technical pauses). Do you think this change is fair because not all coaches used that camera bug?

The presence of coaches greatly contributes to the development of the CS:GO scene. It is becoming even more professional. A ban specifically on RMR tournaments is definitely a bad thing and clearly does not contribute to this development. But one can still understand this decision in light of the coaches scandal in 2020.

Do you think third-party tournament operators (BLAST, ESL) will use Valve's new rules outside of RMR events? Or will they leave their policy unchanged?

I really hope they don't, otherwise, it would put the whole scene back years. I'm sure a lot of people understand that, and we'll try to keep everything the same as it was with the coaches.

In addition, Valve has also banned team personnel from being in the room with the players. Does this mean we won't see any more light-hearted live-vlogs from bootcamps?

Once again, it's negative for stage development and negative for valuable content for the viewers for whom we do this. I don't fully understand why exactly these decisions are made. Perhaps they want to make it as close to LAN conditions as possible. But somehow we played the whole year and everything was ok. And RMR-tournaments could also be played in a similar format, and everything would be fine.
