Blurr: Path to NAVI

R6 / News / 31 August 2022 — 17:30

Today the NAVI esports club says goodbye to Rainbow Six Siege player Byron «Blurr» Murray. Byron defended NAVI’s banner for two years. Here’s a look back at some of the most memorable moments.

Recall that Blurr had a chance to play for NAVI before he officially joined the roster in August of 2020. As a stand-in, Byron helped the team in the 11th season of Pro League: together with him, the team won three league matches.

European League 2020 and Six Invitational 2021 Qualifiers

The first official tournament for Blurr was the UK Ireland Nationals Summer 2020, where the team made it to the grand-final, and lost in a decisive game 2 : 3 to MnM Gaming. This small championship was a great opportunity to prepare for the second stage of the European League 2020.

Blurr approached the start of the league in great individual form, being the top player of the team in the Siege.gg ranking. At the tournament, NAVI placed only fifth and was forced to skip a Major. However, they managed to earn a slot in the European League 2020.

The next challenge for NAVI was the qualifiers for the Six Invitational 2021. In their first match, unexpectedly for everyone, our guys lost to Mkers with a score 0 : 2. Blurr’s dominant KOST score was the silver lining amid the defeat.

The end of the season was also disappointing, with NAVI players struggling in the European League 2020 finals. The result is 4th place in the tournament and a season break with many problems to solve.

European League 2021 and Six Mexico Major 2021

By the start of the new season, the team had made some lineup changes that showed effort in taking fights on our terms. Thus, the team took first place at UK Ireland Nationals, and in the European League 2021 Stage 1. Byron meanwhile was one of the top players according to Siege.gg — 1,24.

Blurr was the hero of the match, winning a spectacular 1 x 3 clutch. As he later admitted that he nearly had a heart attack. Health is of course priority, but that play was not only the highlight of the day but the whole European League 2021 Stage 1.

Alas, after such a brilliant performance, our team didn’t reach the Major due to the postponement of the Six Invitational: this circumstance didn’t allow NAVI players to keep their excellent form for a long period of time.

After finishing third in the second stage of the European League 2021, the guys went to the Major in Mexico, but they were only a mere shadow of themselves. The decline in performance also affected Blurr, who played stable but still not as solid as in the spring.

European League 2021 and Six Invitational 2022

In the third stage of the European League 2021, our team was 8th, but this result was enough to place third in the overall standings and qualify for the League Finals.

Our squad settled for third in the league finals, but the main tournament of the season was still ahead — Six Invitational 2022.

There was no need to worry about qualifiers: NAVI earned enough points to qualify for the championship. Rigorous training, however, was not a guarantee of success. The team made it to the playoffs but lost their first match and got eliminated from the tournament.

NAVI and Blurr: splitting paths

All in all, this wasn’t a great season for NAVI: the team and players need a reboot.

Blurr’s contract with the club expires today. We’d like to thank him for his two years with NAVI and wish him the best of luck in his future career. His plays will always stay in the memories of fans. #ObsessedWe
